3 players still in playoffs Cleveland Browns should target in free agency
Matthew Judon, Baltimore Ravens EDGE
The Browns pass rush was good at the beginning of the year, as they were able to get pressure sending just four rushers. As the season went along and they lost Myles Garrett to suspension and Olivier Vernon to injury, they’re pass rush fell off a cliff.
They still had talented interior defensive linemen with Larry Ogunjobi and Sheldon Richardson, but they couldn’t attack from the edges. Matthew Judon, who made his first Pro Bowl this year, was a force coming off the corner and would instantly help the Browns defensive front.
He recorded 9.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss and four forced fumbles. Those sack numbers aren’t great, but the pressure he applied had much more of an impact than those numbers say.
He is also incredibly durable. He has played in 16 games in three of his first four seasons and he played 14 games in the outlier season. We saw the usefulness of that this year, as Vernon missed six games and has missed time each of the past three seasons.
A good pass rush can cover up a lot of other problems and Judon would make the Browns pass rush great. You’d also be taking the best pass rusher from the rival Baltimore Ravens.
There may be room to sign two of these players, but it would be difficult to attain all three of them because there are players currently on the roster who deserve extensions, such as linebacker Joe Schobert.
Keep your eyes peeled for these guys this weekend because there will be turnover on this roster that underachieved this season.
