Freddie Kitchens interviews with New York Giants, possible landing spot
Former Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens interviewed with the New York Giants. It looked like a lock at first but some competition has emerged in the last few days.
It wasn’t even the end of Week 17 before the Cleveland Browns decided to let go of their head coach Freddie Kitchens, giving into the fact that he had been given a role he simply wasn’t ready for.
There were things that happened that were out of his control, such as the Myles Garrett incident, but he didn’t handle them the way you want your leader to handle controversy. By the end of the season he seemed to have completely lost the locker room.
But losing the opportunity of a lifetime won’t keep Kitchens out of football, as he has interviewed with the New York Giants. Although it hasn’t been confirmed what position he interviewed for, it’s likely to be tight ends coach.

Kitchens worked with Giants head coach Joe Judge at Mississippi State and Kitchens has a history of coaching tight ends. That was his job with the Dallas Cowboys in 2006 and the Arizona Cardinals from 2007-12.
It makes sense for Kitchens to go back to being a position coach, which is what he was before vaulting to head coach of the Browns last season. But some competition has surfaced recently. New York interviewed former University of Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley this week as well, first reported by Dan Duggan of The Athletic.
Dooley doesn’t have a direct connection to Judge, but he did work the Giants new offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. Dooley was the Cowboys wide receivers coach from 2013-17. They also hired Marc Colombo as their offensive line coach, who also worked for Garrett in Dallas.
Dooley also has experience coaching tight ends, so it’s possible he and Kitchens are competing for the same position. It is also reported that Kitchens has offers to go other places, although none of those teams have been confirmed to be interested.
Although the Giants are a likely destination for Kitchens, it is not a guaranteed job. However, Kitchens taking interviews is showing that he has no intent on taking any time away from football after his struggles in Cleveland.
