Can OBJ get back to being OBJ?

74 receptions for 1,035 yards and four touchdowns doesn’t seem to be a bad season at all for any wide receiver. That is unless that receiver is Odell Beckham, Jr. the electric superstar who cost the Browns a first-round pick, a third-round pick, and starting safety Jabrill Peppers to acquire.

It was a lot to give up, but considering OBJ averaged 92.8 yards per game during his five seasons with the New York Giants, the Browns were beyond thrilled to make the move. Sure, there was a chance his numbers would decline simply due to the firepower around him as Nick Chubb, Jarvis Landry, David Njoku, and Kareem Hunt were all expected to get theirs. But no one thought it would be a dip of 28.1 yards per game.

That’s what happened to Beckham’s average in 2019 and he also had the lowest catch-rate of his career with 55.6 percent of his targets being hauled in. Both those numbers were indicative of the struggles he and quarterback Baker Mayfield had getting on the same page.

And while fans felt the frustration, no one was more upset about the struggles than Beckham was. OBJ was often seen on the sidelines frustrated about his lack of production — and it wasn’t as if he was having a diva reaction to not getting targets. Instead, he seemed frustrated that the team was struggling and he wasn’t making the plays to help.

With a new staff in town, the Browns have to figure out what to do with No. 13. Can he and Mayfield get on the same page? Can Kevin Stefanski find more creative ways to get him involved?

OBJ is a superstar and gives opposing defenses nightmares. This offseason, they have to figure out how to best utilize his talent.
