Cleveland Browns: 3 Players linked to Joe Woods to add in 2020
By Randy Gurzi
1. Jimmie Ward, Safety
The last name on this list would be the best fit for the Cleveland Browns. Back in 2018, they believed they had their answer at free safety in Damarious Randall. He was added in a trade with the Green Bay Packers, in exchange for DeShone Kizer, and had a great campaign.
Unfortunately, things were different in 2019 as Randall and the Browns were unable to work out a contract extension and Randall played the season with an apparent chip on his shoulder. With him all but gone, Cleveland could look to one of Joe Woods’ favorite players from 2019, Jimmie Ward.
Of course, it won’t be easy since the Niners want him back as well. Ward had his best season as a pro with 65 tackles and an interception. Should Cleveland be able to land him, it would solve their issues at free safety, although they could still need someone else at strong safety.
Last season, Morgan Burnett manned that position but ended up on IR with a torn Achilles. At his age, it won’t be easy to come back from that so it would be smart to add someone there.
But at least adding Ward would solve one of the two positions.
