After a quiet 2019 season from Rashard Higgins, how impactful would it be to see a red carpet 2.0 season from him in 2020?

The Cleveland Browns season did not go as planned in 2019 due to many different reasons. From coaching, injuries and other problems it was one the Browns are looking to quickly grow and move on from.

In terms of individual player success, a few guys had a season to remember while others, just like the organization as a whole are looking to quickly move on from. A player who is looking to move on quickly and have a solid bounce-back year? Rashard Higgins.

Heading into 2020, Higgins will be entering his fifth season in the NFL. Throughout his young NFL career, Higgins has totaled 76 receptions to go along with 1,016 yards and seven touchdowns. Higgins is set to become an Unrestricted Free Agent this March if the Browns decide to have him test the waters.

Should the Browns give him a shot to have another 2018 like season this upcoming year, Baker Mayfield would be getting back another one of his favorite targets.

In what was by far Higgins’ best season in the NFL, he posted 39 receptions for 572 yards and four touchdowns. Higgins also had his best season in the NFL in 2018, the same season Browns nation was able to see the potential of Mayfield as well as watch him set the NFL rookie passing touchdown record.

It’s clear that Mayfield and Higgins have a connection that needs to be revisited. In 2018, Higgins was only targeted 53 times, making his catch percentage a very solid 73.6 percent.

Aside from the numbers aspect that comes with Higgins, it is clear that he is a difference-maker and gets the crowd energized play after play when on the field.

With Cleveland’s new coach Kevin Stefanski coming into town, if Higgins is given the opportunity to return to his 2018 form he must give everything he has on every single snap. The Minnesota Vikings offense that was led by Stefanski used a three WR set just 18 percent of snaps last season.

If the Browns can re-sign Higgins to a contract similar to his one year, $2.025 million deal in April of 2019, he should help the Browns regain confidence going into the new season and give the fans back some of that “Hollywood” excitement.

It goes without saying Higgins was underused and undervalued this past season with Freddie Kitchens calling the plays.

Resigning Higgins and heading into the new season with Odell Beckham Jr and Jarvis Landry to help take some of the pressure off of him would be extremely ideal to help revamp this Browns offense and bring the red carpet back into full effect.
