Retooling the Cleveland Browns 3.0: Pre-Combine mock draft
By Mitch Zoloty
Alex Highsmith is going to be an absolute steal for whatever NFL team ends up drafting him. His draft buzz for some reason isn’t that high, and he is most likely going to be a late day three pick. However, I think he is going to make an NFL fan base super happy, as he is easily the most slept on prospect in this year’s draft class.
Clemson had extremely high praise for the Charlotte defensive end this season when they played against each other. Clemson offensive lineman Jackson Carman and Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney had extremely high praise for Highsmith, comparing him to Clemson defensive end Xavier Thomas, and Swinney said he could play for anyone in the country.
The best indicator of how good a player is, in my opinion, comes straight from his opponents. No one has watched more film on a guy than the guys who he plays against, so for Clemson to pick out Alex Highsmith and give him so much praise shows how good Highsmith is.
Racking up a whopping 15 sacks his senior year, he could provide much-needed production for the Browns that they are severely lacking. I’ve already mocked Khalid Kareem to the Browns in this mock draft, but the Browns could realistically end up drafting two edge rushers to make sure they don’t have to go through another season like last year.
The team should end up keeping five to six defensive ends on the roster, and Highsmith would have a great shot to make the roster, and in my opinion, even eventually start down the line in future seasons for the Browns.
