The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including how the Browns star receivers will still receive a lot of touches.

In his first press conference as the Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator, Alex Van Pelt was not afraid to candidly answer questions. His most revealing answer is how much he wants to improve Baker Mayfield‘s footwork.

One of the other more notable answers from Van Pelt was when he was discussing Cleveland’s star receivers. Although they were not the dynamic duo they were expected to be in their first season in the NFL together, Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. were a large part of the Browns offense in 2019.

Some believe one of the biggest reasons for the Browns offensive struggles in 2019 was the game plan relied on Beckham and Landry too much. Had the Browns utilized all of their weapons and ran a more balanced offense, perhaps the offense could generate more rhythm.

Odell Beckham Jr. & Jarvis Landry ‘both deserve to get the ball as much as possible,’ OC Alex Van Pelt says – Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com

"“I think having two guys that really make you play it straight defensively will help. As far as getting them the ball, that is our job as the offensive staff to scheme up ways to make them a top priority in the progressions.”"

Although Beckham and Landry were a large part of Cleveland’s game plan in 2019, it was clear Freddie Kitchens did not know how to give them touches in an efficient manner. It would not be surprising to see the Browns find better ways to get both of their star receivers the ball in 2020 and help them improve their production.

How much is Browns linebacker Joe Schobert worth?

Browns still deciding whether Alex Van Pelt or Kevin Stefanski will call plays – Charean Williams, Pro Football Talk

"“I could easily call plays,” Van Pelt said. “I work for Kevin and am excited to do whatever role he wants me to do. Right now, I am coordinating and helping set this offense up with some good coaches.”"

Although Van Pelt has been on Kevin Stefanski’s staff for a few weeks now, it is slightly surprising that it has not been determined who will call plays. They may be working on building the offense before coming to a decision, but it is a good sign Stefanski has someone on staff who can manage the workload of being the play-caller.

Browns should not put faith in signing top free agent offensive tackles

The Cleveland Browns are clearly going to be in the market for offensive tackles this offseason. However, a recent contract extension should cause the Browns to not put their faith in signing one of the best available free agent offensive tackles when the free agency period opens.
