2020 NFL Scouting Combine: 5 Small School prospects Cleveland Browns should get to know
By Clay Goodwin
1. Jabril Cox, Linebacker, North Dakota State
Jabril Cox is a linebacker from North Dakota State. The Bisons are one of the more popular small schools and boast an excellent team in the FCS — and Jabril Cox very well may be the best linebacker in the FCS. He is listed at 6-foot-3 and 233 pounds which is a great frame for an NFL outside linebacker.
His height can be ideal for covering tight ends and roaming the hook and curl zone in the middle of the field. In fact, he made several interceptions undercutting throws to curl routes.
Cox has good pursuit but is careful to not over-run the play. He is also very good at putting pressure on the quarterback. On film, he disguised his blitzes well and then explodes towards the backfield. He is excellent at avoiding blocks from the running backs and once in the backfield, most quarterbacks will not be able to escape his speed.
The Browns do need linebacker depth, especially if they do not retain Joe Schobert. Cox could be a guy to come in and make athletic plays alongside playmaker Mack Wilson, who played well as a rookie and should continue to progress in the NFL.
The Cleveland Browns personnel team is surely doing their due diligence on these prospects for the 2020 NFL draft. NFL fans should get to know these players because they can turn to be playmakers for the next several years. True diamonds in the rough.
