Round 7, Pick: Jacob Breeland, TE, Oregon

We reach the final round of the 2020 NFL Draft and the Browns have addressed the majority of their needs. With that being the case, they simply go for the best player they can grab this late with their final pick, which ends up landing them Oregon tight end Jacob Breeland.

Breeland is an interesting player as he can line up anywhere he’s needed. He was used as a traditional in-line tight end but also split out as a slot receiver. In addition to this, Breeland lined up in the backfield as an H-back as well — much like Orson Charles did for them in 2018.

Despite his versatility, Breeland isn’t expected to go early in the draft. He does have great ball skills but his limited athleticism is a question going into the next level. On top of that, he saw his final season come to an end early with a leg injury.

That won’t stop the Browns from giving him a shot as they look to add more competition to the tight end position. Currently, they have David Njoku and Stephen Carlson on the roster. They also had Ricky Seals-Jones but he’s set for free agency so there’s no guarantee he will return.

Njoku, a former first-round pick in 2017, fell out of favor with Freddie Kitchens running the team. It will be interesting to see if that remains the case with Kevin Stefanski now coming in as the head coach.

Either way, Breeland would have a good chance at making the roster and if he does, Baker Mayfield has shown a willingness to target these guys in the red zone. It could end up being a great fit for the player and team.
