Combine Takeaways for the Cleveland Browns 2020 draft, and how it could Affect Free Agency Decisions

With the combine taking place this week in Indianapolis, Cleveland Browns fans once again start to get excited! Unfortunately, the draft and free agency is all Browns fans have had to look forward to in the past 20 years. What better way to kick off the NFL year than by judging the talent available for the 10th pick in the 2020 draft.

Left tackle appears to be the biggest need whether through the draft or free agency. With Greg Robinson currently facing felony charges and Chris Hubbard coming off a very mediocre year, Baker Mayfield is desperate for some help.

My oh my, have Browns fans ever missed someone more than Joe Thomas? Robinson is out of contract currently, after showing promise to end 2018 with the Browns. Over the Cap has Hubbard scheduled to make over $7 million next year, with his contract active through the 2022 season. While Kevin Stefanski hit a home run hiring respected offensive line coach Bill Callahan, his work is certainly cut out for him.

The best-case scenario for the Browns is four QB’s going in the top 10. While four could be pushing it, three seems almost certain. Joe Burrow (LSU) is currently the clear front-runner as the number one pick with Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama), Justin Herbert (Oregon) and Jordan Love (Utah State) all in the mix to go top 10. The more QB’s that go early, the more talent at offensive tackle (OT) on the board when the Browns are on the clock at 10.

Before moving on I have to say “Isaiah Simmons, no matter what” should be written on a sticky note in Andrew Berry’s pocket draft night. He looks to be an instant star at free safety, another position the Browns are in desperate need of.

The 6-foot-4 hybrid safety/linebacker looks like a Troy Polamalu type talent, but even bigger. I don’t use the Polamalu reference lightly — just ask Browns QB from 2003 to 2013. Unfortunately, it looks highly unlikely the future star slides past Jacksonville at No. 9.
