The Cleveland Browns have elected to let linebacker Joe Schobert walk via free agency. Who could he wind up playing for?

Joe Schobert’s time in Cleveland has come to an end as multiple reports have surfaced that the Cleveland Browns are not willing to meet his price tag on a new contract. While Schobert is a Pro-Bowl caliber player, GM Andrew Berry and the Browns do not believe in Schobert enough to offer him the going rate for a quality NFL linebacker.

Schobert finished last season with 133 tackles, four interceptions, two sacks and two forced fumbles. A very solid season to have for his walk year in his contract.

While Schobert does have his limitations, he does excel in pass coverage which is becoming ever more important for linebackers to be able to do in today’s NFL. And now he enters free agency at the ripe age of 26, entering the prime of his playing career.

Here are three potential landing sport for Joe Schobert’s services.

No. 3: Denver Broncos

Schobert would be a great fit in the middle of the Denver defense to play along side edge rusher Von Miller. The linebacker play of the Denver Broncos has been solid throughout the past few seasons but being able to bring in a veteran Pro-Bowl caliber linebacker to plug into the defense could help return them to the elite level that they are used to.

One NFL insider seems to believe that Schobert to Denver makes a lot of sense:

"“If Cleveland lets Joe Schobert walk, which it looks like they will considering they have not even offered him, Denver would be intrigued,”–Benjamin Allbright, Pro Football Network"

No. 2: New Orleans Saints

With the Saints being of the cusp of a Super Bowl appearance these past few years, signing Joe Schobert may just be part of one last push to get them to the big game. Drew Brees is possibly playing his last NFL season and the rest of this team is loaded with talent.

Linebacker has been a position of concern for the Saints and bringing in Schobert could help ease the minds of the front office and coaching staff. He could be a perfect fit to help cover all the talented tight ends that are in the NFC when the playoffs roll around.

No. 1: Green Bay Packers

Joe Schobert to the Packers makes a lot of sense. The Wisconsin native and former Wisconsin Badger player, Schobert would more than likely welcome the opportunity to return home. And with a major need at linebacker, it makes sense for the Packers as well.

The opportunity of playing for his home state team and the chance to play in the playoffs for the first time in his career would have to be at the fore front of Schobert’s mind as this could very well be the No.1 choice for Schobert as free agency starts.
