Daily Dawg Tags: How will Cleveland Browns help Baker Mayfield?
By Dan Justik
The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including how the new coaching staff plans on helping Baker Mayfield.
The Cleveland Browns were hoping Baker Mayfield‘s success in 2018 with Freddie Kitchens as offensive coordinator would carry over into 2019. Mayfield seemed to take a liking to Kitchens’ coaching style and Kitchens appeared to be getting the best out of Mayfield.
Instead, Mayfield did not show any development under Kitchens and had one of the worst statistical seasons of all starting quarterbacks in 2019. Now the question is if the new coaching staff can get Mayfield and his development back on track.
The coaching staff led by Kevin Stefanski will have their work cut out for them because Mayfield did not show fundamental development during his second season. The Browns staff will have to work with Mayfield to clean up his technique, as well as working on making him comfortable with the new offense.

How new Browns regime hopes to get Baker Mayfield back on track – Jake Trotter, ESPN
"“It’s our job as an offensive staff to help him and make him successful,” Van Pelt said. “Everything starts around the quarterback on the offensive side of the ball. We have to put him in the best position for him to have success, and that will make us all better.”"
Alex Van Pelt made it pretty clear that Mayfield’s footwork needs a lot of work, which would in turn help with some of Mayfield’s accuracy issues. If Van Pelt can clean that up and Stefanski tailors the offense to the strengths of his quarterback, there is a good potential of Mayfield growing as a quarterback in 2020.
Did Christian Kirksey announce his release on social media?
One of the longest tenured Browns players, Christian Kirksey has been surrounded by discussion that he may not be on Cleveland’s roster in 2020. Clay Goodwin wonders if Kirksey will be the next Browns player to be released.
Adam Schefter shares story behind Condoleezza Rice-Browns report – Ben Axelrod, WKYC.com
"“They just wanted to get ideas. It wasn’t like they were hiring Condoleezza Rice,Schefter said. “Condoleezza Rice was a person they were interested in talking to, getting her perspective. And you know what? In the world we live in, that’s probably wise. Could she have been any worse than what they’ve done? No.”"
After firing Hue Jackson in the middle of the season, the report saying the Browns wanted to talk to Condoleezza Rice drew the ire of the Browns fan base. However, as Adam Schefter explains his report, it is evident that the Browns were just trying to generate ideas since they had time to do so with a mid-season search. However, the backlash clearly made them reconsider their plan.
