Cleveland Browns: Top 3 home games since 2002
By Grant Puskar
2. Browns beat Patriots, 34-14
In this game, the Browns managed to do something that they have struggled mightily to do for as long as most of us can remember; get ahead, and stay ahead. Nobody expected the Browns to win this game, let alone do so in the fashion that they were able to pull off.
The Browns jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in this game, thanks to a Phil Dawson 38-yard field goal and then a 2-yard touchdown run from Peyton Hillis. The Patriots later marched down the field to score a touchdown and make the game 10-7 on a touchdown pass from Tom Brady to tight end Aaron Hernandez.
After this touchdown from the Patriots, the Browns put their foot on the gas and never looked back. Browns rookie quarterback Colt McCoy and Browns running back Peyton Hillis led the way, as McCoy threw for 174 yards and Hillis rushed for 184 yards to go along with 2 touchdowns on the ground. Hillis also had some insane highlight plays in this game, doing just about everything. From trucking guys to hurdling guys, he was putting the league on notice.
Hillis went on to make the cover of Madden NFL 12, and then seemingly the “Madden curse” hit him hard as he slowly fell off as a star running back in the NFL.
After this crazy and memorable game, the Browns went on to have a rough season, winning only two more games and finished the season at the mark of 5-11.
