5. Colt McCoy, QB

Coming off an appearance in the BCS National Championship game Colt McCoy was selected with the 85th pick in 2010 out of the University of Texas. Expectations weren’t terribly high but he was a good college quarterback and Cleveland was starving for a starter.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

His rookie year wasn’t magical, similar to the entire 2010 season for the Browns. By most accounts, Eric Mangini wasn’t good for the team and as a result, he was fired after the season so McCoy gets a slight pass.

He started eight games completed 60 percent of his passes for 1,576 yards six touchdowns and nine interceptions.

The Browns then hired Pat Shurmur who is known for his offensive knowledge and McCoy had the best year of his NFL career. He started 13 games going 4-9, that was the only four games the team won that year. He passed for 2,733 yards for 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

McCoy seemed to be coming into his own but his body couldn’t stand up to the physicality of the NFL, he was sacked 32 times in 13 games and got injured. He never started another game for Cleveland.

He traveled to the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins where he has been mostly a backup. He has started nine games since leaving the Browns and has had been held back by injury.
