The Denver Broncos won’t bring back guard Ronald Leary and the Cleveland Browns would be wise to pick up the phone and call his agent

Veteran guard Ronald Leary needs a new NFL home. The Cleveland Browns need a new right guard. Sometimes, it’s just too easy.

Leary, who started his career with the Dallas Cowboys, has spent the past three seasons with the Denver Broncos. However, it’s now being reported that the Broncos aren’t planning to pick up the team option on his contract and he’s now going to hit the open market.

Leary entered the NFL as a free agent after going undrafted out of Memphis in 2012. The reason he wasn’t taken had nothing to do with talent as Leary was a stud in college but instead, it was a degenerative knee condition that scared teams off.

However, he quickly proved he was worth the investment as he was a key cog in a dominant Dallas offensive line. He helped pave the way for DeMarco Murray in 2014 to lead the league in rushing. The same happened for rookie Ezekiel Elliot in 2016.

That led to the Broncos giving him a four-year contract worth $36 million. Unfortunately, he started to struggle with health as he missed five games in 2017, 10 in 2018, and four last season.

But according to Leary, he’s finally fully healthy and believes he has plenty left in the tank.

Set to turn 31-years old before the season begins, Leary should still have a few good years in him — provided he can stay healthy. Even with that caveat, the Browns should be on the phone with Leary’s agent as soon as possible.

Not only would he be an upgrade to what Cleveland used at right guard in 2019 but he could be very affordable given his injury history.

Of course, the other edge of that sword is the number of games he could miss, but having a veteran presence that can start would help as they look for their long-term starter.
