5. Joe Thuney, Guard, New England Patriots

Projected contract per overthecap.com: 5 years-$13.5m avg/yr, $30.5m guaranteed, $67.5m total

Joe Thuney was a guard for the New England Patriots for four seasons, starting all 64 games in that time period. Joe Thuney has been improving each season for the Patriots as he prepares to hit the open market.

More from Browns News

In 2018, Thuney’s Pro Football Focus (subscription required) grade was 74.4, which would rank him 12th as a guard. He improved to a 75.5 grade in 2018, moving up to sixth out of all the guards. In 2019, he had his best season yet, logging a 77.4 PFF grade, fifth among guards.

In 2019, Thuney played 693 pass-blocking snaps, only allowing one sack, which has to seem unreal to Browns fans. He totaled an 87.4 pass-blocking grade for the season. However, his 66.6 run-blocking grade is a weakness.

Thuney has improved each year, never missed a start, and would solve problems the Browns have on the offensive line. He would most likely have to move to the right side as Joel Bitonio has the left side anchored down. This is a consistent, reliable guard who can be had at an affordable price (not to mention comes from a proven winner) and is someone the Browns must consider.
