4. Adam Trautman, TE, Dayton

This is a player who is getting a lot more attention during combine season than he did during football season but part of that is because he played at the University of Dayton, an FCS school. But Adam Trautman has all the ability to be an NFL tight end.

He is 6-foot-5 and 255-pounds so he has the size and he ran a 4.8-second 40-yard dash, meaning he also has the speed desired. He caught 178 passes for 2,295 yards and 31 touchdowns in his college career so he has the production but he is still ranked sixth at his position according to CBS sports.

So why isn’t he as highly thought of as stats and measurables would suggest? There are questions about the level of talent he faced since he played at an FCS school and if he can handle the size and physicality of the NFL. At his position, he will have to block defensive ends and he has never faced players as good as the ones he will see in the league.

There aren’t many questions about what he is as a pass-catcher but his blocking is much more of a question mark. He hasn’t shown great technique and his hand placement can be bad. Although it is easier to play tight end without being a good blocker but its not ideal.

New Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski likes to use two tight ends in his offense so that could put Trautman on Cleveland’s radar. But if you pair him with David Njoku they would both have to improve as blockers.

Trautman probably won’t last long in the second round and he may not be worth the pick at that spot with Njoku already on the roster.
