Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson

Linebacker was already a weakness for the Cleveland Browns, and something they were likely to consider addressing entering the 2020 NFL Draft. With the recent news to let Joe Schobert test free agency, however, it’s become an even bigger hole that needs to be filled.

If the Browns get lucky and he’s still on the board at the 10th pick, Isaiah Simmons may just solve all their problems with that position, however. Simmons is the best defensive draft prospect in this year’s class, thanks in large part to his versatility. Not only can he play every linebacker spot, but he also played in pass coverage in nickel packages on defense and also at safety if needed.

If Schobert does indeed sign elsewhere, as is expected due to his asking price, Simmons could step in and fill the hole immediately. He’s an excellent blitzer, good in coverage, and has the speed to go sideline to sideline with ease.

Simmons can play both the linebacker position, as well as pass rushing edge when needed. With the frequently injured Olivier Vernon on the outside opposite of Myles Garrett, and nobody of real substance behind either, Simmons could come in and be a great all-around defensive player for defensive coordinator Joe Woods to use everywhere.
