Pick 59. DavonHamilton. player. 812. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. DT. Round 2

After adding a starting left tackle with Ezra Cleveland in the first round and a starting safety in Antoine Winfield, Jr. with their first pick in the second, the Browns now fill another massive need with the second-round pick they added in their earlier trade. With the No. 59 overall pick from Seattle, Cleveland adds a massive nose tackle in Davon Hamilton from Ohio State.

Hamilton is an emerging player who had just one season worth of starting experience for the Buckeyes — but that one year was a big one. Hamilton was credited with 28 tackles with 9.5 going for a loss and he had six sacks, which proves he more than just a run-stuffing nose tackle.

He showed that above-average athleticism at the Scouting Combine as he moved quickly and with good agility, especially when considering he measured in at 6-foot-4 and 320-pounds.

As for his addition to the Browns roster, he’s the exact type of player their defense needs. Currently, they have some talented defensive linemen in Myles Garrett, Olivier Vernon, Sheldon Richardson, and Larry Ogunjobi but they don’t have that big space-eater to do the dirty work in the run game. This was evident in their struggles in the run game, giving up 144.7 yards per game which ranked them third-worst in the league according to NFL.com.

Clearly, the Browns would have liked to add more in the trade down, especially considering it was the only succesful trade pulled off. However, when looking at how big of a need this kid fills, it was well worth it — and they still get one more pick in a few rounds.
