The Cleveland Browns had a great first day of free agency as they brought in Austin Hooper, Case Keenum and Jack Conklin. They shouldn’t be done just yet.

General manager Andrew Berry and the Cleveland Browns had a great first day of free agency. Grabbing two starters in tight end Austin Hooper and right tackle Jack Conklin filled major needs for this football team. They also added a true veteran quarterback in Case Keenum, who could step in and provide solid play if needed.

But there are still many more holes on this roster to fill, mainly on the defensive side of the ball. All three levels of the defense seem to be pretty thin and could use an upgrade on its depth charts. If the Browns can sign these two players who are still available, that would go along way in helping fill the voids that they currently have.

No. 1: Derek Wolfe, DE

Derek Wolfe should be a key target for this football team. Wolfe is sound against the run and has solid pass rushing abilities. With seven sacks for Denver last season while only playing in 12 games, Wolfe’s production should spike if he were healthy for a full season.

Wolfe also is a player who can play multiple positions on the defensive line as Denver did kick him inside to the three technique at times over his career. And of course, with the chance of playing next to an elite level pass rusher in Myles Garrett, hopefully Wolfe’s number would increase in that role, something Olivier Vernon failed to do last season.

No. 2: Reggie Ragland, ILB

Reggie Ragland is a part of that second wave of free agent linebackers. While Ragland is talented, he does have his fair share of flaws. After missing out on signing Blake Martinez or Nick Kwiatkoski, Ragland may be one of the next best inside linebackers on the market.

A true thumper, Ragland would be able to help in run defense. However, he would probably have to come off the field in passing situations as he does not have ‘Joe Schobert’ type pass coverage skills. Pairing the fourth-year Alabama product in Ragland with a younger player, maybe like Sione Takitaki, it might make some sense.

Ragland started seven games for the Chiefs last season finishing with 30 tackles and two sacks.
