Andy Janovich, fullback
The Browns traded the Denver Broncos a 2021 seventh-round selection for their fullback, Andy Janovich. Janovich played four years with Denver and was an excellent blocker for the team as well as a fan favorite.
Cleveland was without a true fullback for the past few years, only really using tight ends as fullbacks in certain situations. The new regime wanted a traditional fullback, however, and that is largely due to Kevin Stefanski.
Stefanski likes traditional fullbacks and used one in his time with the Vikings. Their fullback, C.J. Ham was just voted to his first Pro Bowl in 2019, showing their usage of a fullback in their system. Stefanski gets Janovich to play that role in Cleveland.
Janovich is a hard-nosed player from the University of Nebraska. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2016 draft. He is excellent in both pass and run blocking. Janovich is fearless at the point of attack and runs his feet through the play. It’s evident when watching the film that the protection is considerably better with Janovich in the game.
He has a great ability to pick up a blitz and fill his gap. When in the run game, he finds his hole and clears the first man that crosses his path. That is typical in a zone run scheme which Sfeanski likes to run. This is an excellent addition at a very low cost. He will improve the Browns offense in a variety of ways.
The 2020 offseason for the Browns is off to a great start with the addition of these four players. They can come in and fill positions of need and help the team get to where they need to be. Hopefully, there are more moves coming for Cleveland, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
