Cleveland Browns: 3 First round draft options after free agency
No. 3: Take the best tackle no matter what
This could wind up being Cleveland’s doomsday scenario. In this scenario, Cleveland could not find a free agent tackle who could step in and start right away and there has been a run on offensive tackles within the top ten of the draft.
Georgia’s Andrew Thomas, Louisville’s Mekhi Becton, Iowa’s Tristin Wirfs, and Alabama’s Jedrick Wills all have top 10 potential and there are a lot of teams within the top 10 of this draft that, just like the Browns, also need help at offensive tackle.
If three of those players are selected, Cleveland almost certainly has to take the fourth or higher ranked tackle such as Josh Jones that they value. Risking a trade back could wind up meaning that they miss on all of the top tackles in this draft, and they simply cannot do that after how poorly their line played the past two seasons.
Realistically one of the top four should be available for the Browns at No. 10. But this is the NFL draft and crazy stuff has happened before and it will happen again.
Let’s just hope GM Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski are prepared for anything that might be thrown at them.
