With their 6th round pick, the Browns grab Kalija Lipscomb, a wide receiver out of Vanderbilt. The Browns are in desperate need of a third receiver, and this draft is historically deep in receivers. Lipscomb has great size to fit into the Browns offense well, as he measured in at the NFL combine at 6-foot tall and 207-pounds.

More from Browns Draft

The Browns aren’t going to find themselves in nearly as many three or four-wide receiver packages as last year, but they will need to sign some depth in case of any injuries to the two star wide receivers they have in Odell Beckham Jr and Jarvis Landry.

Lipscomb is not a flashy player. With a 4.57 40 yard dash time, he does not have blazing speed, and his stats in college are not going to blow your mind. Lipscomb’s best asset is his consistency and hands.

He has all of the makings of a solid backup NFL wide receiver, and could definitely contribute to the team right away. He saw a dip in his statistics from 2018 to 2019, but that shouldn’t be concerning to the Browns, especially if he is available this late in the draft.

In previous years, the Browns have selected a few high risk and high reward players this late in the draft. Examples being guys like Antonio Callaway, Mack Wilson, and Caleb Brantley, all who had their draft stocks drop for one reason or the other.

Lipscomb is almost the complete opposite of these guys, as he is a safe and consistent pick, who could become a great depth player for the Browns. As the franchise turns a new leaf, fans should expect the team to take safer draft picks.
