Cleveland Browns: Dee and Jimmy Haslam step up to fight COVID-19

Cleveland Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam step up to donate $1.5 million dollars to fight COVID-19 via Cleveland and Columbus charities.

Cleveland Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam once again have stepped up and donated $1.5 million dollars to fight COVID-19 at the local level. The Haslams, via the Haslam 3 foundation, are contributing  $1 million to the Greater Cleveland COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund and $500,000 to the Columbus Foundation’s Emergency Response Fund.

According to the Cleveland Foundation Website, Haslam 3 Foundation is among 27 groups contributing to a fund which now holds $5.37 million dollars. The Haslams are among the largest donors.

According to the Browns’ website, the message from Dee and Jimmy is as follows:

"“We are humbled by the tremendous work of people around the world in their efforts to help those impacted by COVID-19 and we wanted to try to positively impact those affected in our own communities of Cleveland and Columbus. We are grateful for the individuals who are putting others before themselves and for the sacrifices they are making.”"

According to the Cleveland Foundation website, the  Greater Cleveland COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund is designed to complement the work of public health officials and will provide grant awards to nonprofit organizations in Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties.

The  Cleveland Foundation website further lists the people the fund is intended to help includes:

*People over 60 years of age, people with compromised immune systems, those who are pregnant and others with increased health risks associated with the novel coronavirus
*Low-income residents
*Homeless people
*Residents without health insurance and/or access to paid time off work
*People with limited English language proficiency
*Healthcare, service workers and part-time workers
*People of color
*People with disabilities
*Incarcerated and returning individuals
*Other populations emerging with needs as the crisis unfolds

The website of the Columbus Foundation is also being set up in real-time. Douglas F. Kridler, President, and CEO of the Columbus Foundation is quoted as follows:

"“We are one community. During times of crisis it is critical we join forces to support each other. The Foundation is committed to being a point of access for those who want to assist others, while also doing what we can with these resources to be of help to this community.”"
