Round No. 6, Pick No. 187: Justin Strnad, LB Wake Forest

With their sixth-round pick, the Browns finally draft a linebacker, Justin Strnad from Wake Forest.

Waiting until the NFL Draft’s third day to grab a position of great need is probably not ideal for the Browns. With Patrick Queen, Kenneth Murray, Zach Baun and Malik Harrison all being drafted before pick No. 41, and with Willie Gay Jr. being drafted ahead of No. 74, Strnad is a good prospect for an unlucky shakeout at the linebacker position.

More from Browns Draft

While Strnad needs to bulk up before becoming an everyday starting linebacker in the NFL, he certainly possesses the sideline-to-sideline speed, length and tackling ability to make him worthy of this selection.

Additionally, he has experience with special teams his tackling ability could be used as a big part of Mike Priefer’s unit in Cleveland.

He delivered some booming hits during his time at Wake Forest. Eventually, Strnad could definitely find a role as a WILL linebacker, but that is Mack Wilson‘s starting job for now.

Strnad fairs well at the NFL level because of his range and explosiveness that are easily his best traits on film. Until then, he needs to focus on shedding blocks and not getting stuck so easily. Also, as mentioned before, adding muscle to his frame would certainly help as he’s already explosive and fast.
