Round No. 7, Pick No. 187: Lawrence Cager, WR Georgia

The Cleveland Browns round out their draft with a skill position and a gigantic red zone target for Baker Mayfield.

Lawrence Cager is a big-bodied wide receiver who thrives in jump ball situations with his 6-foot-5 frame and solid leaping ability. If you throw it up in the air, there’s a good chance Cager is coming down with the football. He has good hands and strength and rarely drops the football.

His big frame causes him to run like a tight end and he doesn’t have fluent speed down the field which slightly limits him on deep routes down the field. In 2016, he underwent ACL surgery and in 2019, he had ankle surgery. Durability is definitely a question for the big Bulldog.

Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. are both smaller in stature and both had surgeries the offseason as well, bringing in Cager could provide some depth as well as some height at the position. With Rashard Higgins still testing unrestricted free agency, the Browns current depth is Taywan Taylor, KhaDarel Hodge, and Damion Ratley.

It’s proven that Mayfield has an easier time throwing to tight ends and bigger targets. Drafting Cager at the end of the draft in the seventh round provides very little risk for the Browns.
