The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including how the excitement around the team should be tempered.
During his first free agency period as the Cleveland Browns general manager, Andrew Berry hit the ground running in a rapid pace. Berry signed several free agents during the first few days of the new league, filling several holes on the roster.
Berry said he planned on being aggressive when it came to adding talent to the roster, and that’s exactly what he was in free agency. The additions he made to the roster has already created anticipation in the Browns fan base for the 2020 season.
With how well Berry has put the pieces together on the roster, the Browns fan base believes the Browns are more ready to compete for a playoff spot in 2020 than they were in 2019. Berry and the Browns are still not done adding talent to the roster with the draft still a month away.

Something being ignored in excitement over Cleveland Browns off-season – Terry Pluto, Cleveland.com
"There is very little risk with any of the Browns free-agent signings on defense. All are on modest one-year contracts: Johnson, Goodson, Joseph, Billings and Sendejo. But there is a reason they were available for those deals, be it injury history and/or lack of production."
The Browns have added several role players on the defensive side of the ball, but they are still lacking impact players who can transform the unit. The Browns defense was picked apart last season, and the group still needs an upgrade in talent in order to be considered a reliable unit for 2020.
Four Browns who could emerge from Freddie Kitchens’ doghouse
Former Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens became well-known for locking players into his theoretical doghouse. Elliot Kennel discusses four players who could break free from Kitchens’ doghouse and excel in 2020.
"“You know how the draft is,” said Ferentz, who is adjusting to his university being shut down amid the coronavirus pandemic. “Funny things happen. Tristan could go No. 4. He could go 24.”Ferentz doubts the Browns will be sorry if they get their hands on Wirfs at No. 10."
Prior to the Combine, Tristan Wirfs was right in the Browns’ range for a selection during the draft. But after a phenomenal Combine performance, Wirfs has jumped ahead of Cleveland’s range. Wirfs’ performance did, however, solidify that he would be a perfect fit in Cleveland’s offense.
Former Browns quarterback believes Case Keenum should start
The Browns signed Case Keenum to be Baker Mayfield‘s veteran backup as Mayfield adjusts to the Kevin Stefanski. That has not stopped conversations, as Randy Gurzi points out, that Keenum should have a chance to be the starter.
