5 Cleveland Browns games to watch while social distancing (Expansion Era)
December 20, 2009 – Cleveland Browns vs. Kansas City Chiefs
Cleveland Browns 41 – Kansas City Chiefs 34
What if I were to tell you that the Cleveland Browns would score 41 points when their quarterback threw for 66 yards on 10 completions with two interceptions? That was quarterback Brady Quinn‘s line on a cold day in Arrowhead Stadium.
The Browns were playing out the string and limped into Kansas City with a 2-11 record. But nobody told that to running back Jerome Harrison and wide receiver/return specialist Josh Cribbs.
Harrison rushed for three touchdowns and set a Cleveland Browns single-game rushing record with 286 yards. It was the most rushing yards in the NFL in 2009 and it was the third-most rushing yards in NFL history.
Cribbs was another record-setter returning not one but two kickoffs for touchdowns which extended his NFL record to eight kickoff returns for touchdowns. Although Devin Hester has returned a total of 19 kickoffs and punts for touchdowns, only five were on kickoffs. For his effort, Cribbs was named the AFC special teams player of the week for the second straight week.
As it would turn out the Browns would need every bit of those efforts. The Chiefs were driving with time running out, but quarterback Matt Cassell’s Hail Mary prayer went unanswered.
