The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including Baker Mayfield’s former coach talking about the quarterback’s future

It’s no secret that Baker Mayfield wasn’t at his best in 2019. The Cleveland Browns No. 1 overall pick was coming off a sensational first season which saw him set the record for the most passing touchdowns by a rookie. Making that even more impressive was that he did so in just 13 starts.

His second act wasn’t as successful though. Mayfield and the rest of his teammates all struggled under head coach Freddie Kitchens and limped their way to a 6-10 record which was a huge disappointment.

Now looking ahead to 2020, the question looms as to whether or not Mayfield is going to be able to rebound. If you ask his former collegiate coach, there is no question.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

Lincoln Riley, who coached Mayfield at Oklahoma where he won a Heisman Trophy, says Mayfield is “hungry” and that he will bounce back this coming season.

"“Lincoln Riley expects Baker Mayfield to be the flag-planting, Heisman-winning, No. 1 overall pick with swagger that he was as a rookie again in 2020.”"

Riley has always been a big believer in Mayfield so it’s not surprising to hear him say positive things about the quarterback. Unfortunately, until the season begins we won’t know for sure how No. 6 is going to play. Which means we will keep hearing the doubters ask the questions.

John McClain: If you get Clowney and the price is right, go for it; should sign a one-year deal, try to cash in after upcoming season — Bull & Fox, 92.3 The Fan

"“John McClain of the Houston Chronicle talks about Jadeveon Clowney’s free agency without a signing to this point, whether the Browns should be interested as it’s been reported, Bill O’Brien’s trade of DeAndre Hopkins and the criticism he’s received since, Deshaun Watson’s standing as one of the top quarterbacks in the league and the uniqueness of this year’s NFL Draft.”"

John McClain knows Jadeveon Clowney well from his time with the Houston Texans. If he says Clowney is worth picking up, it would be wise to listen.

3 things we learned from the 2020 season premiere of ‘Building the Browns’ — Andrew Gribble, ClevelandBrowns.com

"“The Browns occupied suite LS 28C during this year’s Combine in Indianapolis. BTB’s cameras take viewers inside the room, which features a laptop full of the player’s highlights and lowlights and a white board if the player needs to diagram a play for the group.”"
