Mekhi Becton, OT Louisville
Mekhi Becton is a mammoth of an individual, even for an offensive lineman, and the Browns sat down with him at his super impressive combine.
The 6-foot-8, 368-pound Becton ran a 5.10 40-yard dash at the combine, an incredible time for the heaviest man that participated.
However, Becton is fundamentally flawed and that jumps out when you watch his tape. He’s so large that he relies on his frame to just out-power defenders. Sometimes, his knees aren’t even bent.
At his combine media availability, Becton confirmed that he met with the Browns, who were super critical of his technique.
It’s interesting that Becton mentioned that the Browns focused a lot on his technique, or lack thereof, in their combine meeting. Technique is Becton’s biggest flaw, and it appears as if the Browns were certainly not afraid to address that head-on.
Marlon Davidson, DT Auburn
While nearly every full Browns mock draft has them selecting Antoine Winfield Jr. with pick No. 41, there have been no confirmed reports that he has met with the Browns.
Now, it’s quite possible that Winfield Jr. might have met with the Browns in private, but the team did reportedly meet with Auburn defensive tackle Marlon Davidson.
The energetic interior defensive lineman provided a lot of burst and power to Auburn’s interior pass rush. Generally, he is considered a third-round selection, but again, a good Senior Bowl has bolstered his stock possibly all the way into the second round.
Cleveland’s defensive line needs all the depth they can find. After signing Andrew Billings in free agency, they could look to round out the depth by selecting Davidson, who is not afraid to shoot gaps and stop the run.
