3. Van Jefferson, WR, Florida

There isn’t a direct connection to find between the Browns and Florida wide receiver Van Jefferson but there have been those who think he’s a possibility. He was profiled on Cleveland.com and selected as a wide receiver possibility by DPD’s own Nick Pedone.

More from Browns Draft

It’s easy to see why as he’s not a bad prospect at all. Jefferson is listed at 6-foot-2, which is something the Browns need desperately given the smaller stature of their current starters Odell Beckham, Jr. and Jarvis Landry. He’s also a very solid route runner and tracks the ball well.

The real issue comes from the fact that he’s already possibly peaked. Before Jefferson takes his first NFL snap, he’s going to be 24-years old. He ended up in college longer than expected after transferring from Ole Miss to Florida which is why he’s on the older side.

For some positions, this doesn’t matter as much. That’s not often the case with wide receivers who typically are better when they come into the NFL on the younger side.

This isn’t to say Jefferson absolutely can’t be a good player but the Browns don’t need to take any gambles in this draft. They need a No. 3 wide receiver and if they want to use the draft to find that player, they should take every precaution to ensure it’s the right fit.
