The Cleveland Browns revealed their new uniforms on Wednesday as the Browns dug back into their rich history with their updated uniforms.

The Cleveland Browns unveiled the uniforms they will be donning for at least the next five years on Wednesday, and the Dawg Pound had some familiarity with the new look. Instead of taking step out of the box with their new uniforms, the Browns decided to go back to the past with their new threads.

The Browns returned to the look they became known for with the dark brown jerseys and white lettering with white and orange stripes on the sleeve. And unlike their uniforms following the team’s return to Cleveland in 1999, there is no team nameplate or wordmark across the chest.

Cleveland also decided to return to having brown and orange stripes on the socks, which has always been prevalent on the Browns uniforms until the 2015 changeover with solid color socks for all uniforms. The away uniforms have slight differences, including brown pants with white and orange striped. The Browns also revealed alternate jerseys, which are similar to the Color Rush jerseys, except for no stripes on the sleeves.

Cleveland’s “new” uniforms are nearly identical to the design of the uniforms the organization ditched following the 2014 season. The only major difference with the uniforms is the helmet, which was slightly altered during the uniform makeover in 2015.

Cleveland is keeping the helmets the same from the makeover with the brown facemasks, except for the expected change from the carbon fiber on the helmet.

It became clear from the jump that the organization wanted dig back into their long history of football, undoing the changes they made five years ago as they attempted to give the team a more modern look. However, after the fan base quickly showed their displeasure with the new look, it became obvious to the organization their old uniforms had too much history to make such a drastic change.

In several videos released by the organization and Executive Vice President J.W. Johnson, the Browns hinted at the new uniforms going back to their roots, as the clips frequently showed Browns legends Otto Graham, Jim Brown, Eric Metcalf, Bobby Mitchell, and Clay Matthews Jr.

For a team with as much history as the Browns do, it only made sense to go back to what they became known for. Although some fans would have wanted some type of modern twist to the traditional uniforms, the Browns going back to their roots was the best decision they could have made.

For many older generation Browns fans, this will be a welcomed change as the past uniform makeover drew the ire of many in the Dawg Pound. But this time, Cleveland’s decision to return to their past is a move the Dawg Pound will agree with.
