Recent reports are that Ted Ginn Jr. is not yet ready to hang up the cleats.  At age 35, should the Cleveland Browns consider signing the veteran?

Not only is Ted Ginn Jr. an Ohio State Buckeye legend and alumni, Ginn played high school football in Northeast, Ohio for well know coach and father Ted Ginn Sr. at Glenville High School.

Glennville is a known powerhouse in the state that has produced talents like Ginn, Donte Whitner, and Troy Smith.

The Cleveland Browns should consider signing Ginn for added depth and leadership at wide receiver.

While Ginn Jr. is well past his prime at age 35, he could still have a role in Cleveland. While Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry will be the clear go-to guys in 2020, Ginn could be a mentor to younger receivers like Damion Ratley and a potential rookie drafted in 2020.

Let’s not forget, Ginn could also add value as the third wide receiver and possibly returning some kicks (not as likely after the addition of JoJo Natson in free agency). In 2019, Ginn had 30 receptions and two touchdowns.

As recently as 2017 Ginn had 53 receptions, 787 yards, and 4 touchdowns but was limited in 2018 with an injury.  Ginn still has the quickness to get open over the middle on third down and can break a long run after catch here and there.

Sure, Ginn doesn’t have the 4.37 forty-yard dash speed he posted in the 2007 combine, but there is still value-added on the inside. Ginn could also bring veteran leadership to the locker room, with experience winning.

Ginn played the last three seasons in New Orleans where he played multiple playoff games.  Yes, Beckham and Landry are the vocal leaders, but maybe Ginn would be the professional that takes those two to the next level.

It’s easy to think that Beckham and Landry are set in their ways, but I see them being more than open to the 13-year veteran presence of a guy like Ginn. Don’t expect Ginn to come to Cleveland and play savior, but he could easily come in and have 40 catches, 600 yards, and a few touchdowns which would be more than welcome.

Next. Should Browns trade back in Round 1?. dark

Look for Ginn to be a cheap veteran option, who may be motivated to come to Cleveland. This becomes even more possible if the Browns can’t come to an agreement with Rashard Higgins.
