One thing has remained constant throughout these mock drafts, and that is Joe Burrow being the clear number one this year’s draft. With the Cincinnati Bengals ready to move on from Andy Dalton, the national champion from Southern Ohio, Joe Burrow looks to be the next “sure thing” quarterback in the NFL. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner looks to have two matchups per year with Baker Mayfield for the foreseeable future.
Given Burrow’s talent and high ceiling potential, the Bengals must answer the phone for teams looking to move into the No. 1 spot. Unless the offer is greater than the Robert Griffin III blockbuster, don’t look for the Bengals to move back. After an aggressive off-season, the Bengals are looking to move forward quickly rather than rebuilding.
Previously it looked like the Miami Dolphins could be extremely aggressive to get a quarterback and would want to trade with the Washington Redskins. With Justin Herbert’s stock rising recently, I don’t think the Dolphins will be as antsy to move up from pick No. 5 for a quarterback.
With no strong trade partners look for the Redskins to go with likely the safest pick of the draft in defensive end Chase Young from Ohio State. Given the success of recent rookie pass rushers, this decision will be even easier for Washington. Two of the top rushers currently in the NFL have the same last name (Bosa) and both played Collegiate ball at Ohio State.
Young has proven to be a dual-threat setting the edge in the run game and being able to get to the quarterback even when double-teamed. His freak athleticism will allow for some mistakes even at the next level.
The phone will be on for the Redskins, but it doesn’t look like any team will be desperate enough to incentivize Washington to move back.
