Round 4, Pick 115: Josiah Scott, CB, Michigan State

Even with Jeremy Chinn added to the roster, the Browns need depth all around the roster. John Dorsey‘s administration neglected depth on both the offensive line and the secondary. In the later rounds of his first draft, Andrew Berry and Paul DePodesta can remedy that with a few upside-based picks. First, Michigan State cornerback Josiah Scott.

Scott’s tackling abilities and ballhawk tendencies shine through on his film. He might be built a bit small at 5-foot-9 and 185 pounds, but he can make the roster as a backup, or maybe a nickel corner in Cleveland.

Round 6, Pick 187: Justin Herron, OT, Wake Forest

Another upside pick, Wake Forest’s Justin Herron has the athletic ability to play, despite lacking some technique. At this point, the Browns should be taking the best player available, and in addition to that, they can fill out the depth with Herron in the sixth round.

Browns offensive line coach Bill Callahan should be able to coach Herron up, maybe not to a starter level, but somewhere close to it. Offensive linemen are bound to get injured, making the sixth lineman essential. Herron’s innate ability and solid frame make him a great prospect for the Browns to coach up into a backup, and maybe a replacement for a starter a few years down the road.

Round 7, Pick 244: J.J. Taylor, RB, Arizona

Finally, the Browns can bolster their running back room with Arizona’s J.J. Taylor. While the Browns already have two top-tier running backs in Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, it never hurts to add a third just in case, and Taylor could develop with enough time.

A 5-foot-5, 185-pound power back, Taylor doesn’t fit the average “short running back water bug” or gadget player archetype. Rather, he more fits the mold of a smaller Nick Chubb, wearing down defenses with an angry running style.

Taylor can catch out of the backfield, but is more suited to running down the throats of linebackers. He may not make the 53-man roster or play much in 2020, but Taylor could be a training camp or practice squad asset for Cleveland.
