Some experts believe that LSU safety Grant Delpit is the most complete safety in the draft, even over McKinney. Delpit was a three-year starter for LSU, which includes a National Championship and Jim Thorpe Award his final season in 2019. The big knock on Delpit is tackling, and that is likely the biggest reason his name remains on the board day two.

At 6-foot-2 and 213 pounds, the Tiger product is the perfect size for the hybrid safety/linebacker position on Joe Woods’ defense. While Delpit was great in 2019, he appeared to take a step back in his coverage skills compared to 2018, but there could be an explanation.

It can’t be overlooked that Delpit did play through most of the 2019 season with a high ankle sprain. That injury can be painful and takes time to heal if you continue to play on it. It is also important to note that Delpit was chosen to wear the coveted number seven jersey in 2019, which exemplifies his leadership and what the team thought of his skillset.

The Browns must be careful with Delpit, as tackling is a crucial part of the game. Cleveland already has Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams on the roster, whom have been known to struggle with tackling as well.

With that, Delpit is far too big of a talent to pass on at No. 41. Cleveland would be a great situation where Delpit wouldn’t be forced into a major role immediately and could have the ability to learn and adjust to the NFL speed slowly. No player is perfect, but Cleveland fans should be thrilled if Delpit is available in Round 2.
