After filing major needs in the first two days of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns look to add depth with their fifth-round selection.

The Cleveland Browns have had a solid first four rounds of draft picks. This year it’s not about jumping out and selecting a big name to woo the fans back in the stadium. Instead, the Browns are aiming to provide the depth needed to play meaningful football in December and January.

The Browns were able to acquire their starting tackle of the future in Jedrick Wills, an impact safety Grant Delpit, a disruptive interior defensive lineman in Jordan Elliot, an ILB who should compete for a starting spot in Jacob Phillips, and a possible David Njoku replacement in Florida Atlantic tight end Harrison Bryant.

GM Andrew Berry was able to get all five players, acquire a 3rd draft pick from New Orleans Saints in next year’s draft, and pick 160 from the Indianapolis Colts in a swap of both teams third-round picks.

With the pick 160, the Browns added another important depth piece by selecting Washington center Nick Harris. Harris earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors in his junior and senior campaigns to go along with being an honorable mention in his sophomore year, his first as a starter. While Harris has a lot of positives in both his crisp hands and footwork and his low center of gravity and angle creation, he did struggle somewhat at the Senior Bowl which hurt his draft stock.

Luckily for Harris, he will not be expected to contribute right away and will be brought in as a project player who can provide depth at the center position behind veteran J.C. Tretter. This may be the best-case scenario for Harris as he can grow into the pro game under the watch of Browns O-Line coach Bill Callahan. This will give him the best chance to develop into a quality pro center.

While this is not a sexy pick by the Cleveland Browns, Andrew Berry again improves depth at a key position through the draft.
