The Cleveland Browns used their first four picks in the 2020 draft on players from the Southeastern Conference.

The NFL draft has came and went and it gave fans of the Cleveland Browns a lot of reasons for optimism as General Manager Andrew Berry did outstanding in his first draft, he addressed needs and almost all of the players drafted should make the 53-man roster.

There was a trend forming for the Browns, they selected players from the Southeastern Conference with their first four picks.

Jedrick Wills from Alabama, Grant Delpit from LSU, Jordan Elliott from University of Missouri, and Jacob Phillips also from LSU, the defending national champions.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

Wills is the most athletic tackle in the 2020 class to go along with elite strength and a mean streak. Delpit is a hard-hitter out of the secondary that can play in the box and make plays on the ball.

Elliott is slightly undersized for a defensive tackle he makes up for it with quickness and strength and he should be a part of the defensive line rotation. Phillips is also small for his position but he is a sure tackler, he didn’t miss a single tackle in 2019.

Cleveland also selected Greedy Williams and Mack Wilson in 2019, both played college football in the SEC.

This is a great strategy, a team from the SEC has won ten of the last 13 national championships and is highly regarded as the best conference in college football and the closest to NFL competition. Five of the last seven offensive rookies of the year have come from the SEC.

As of 2019 they also had 339 players on rosters, the most of any conference. The Big Ten is next and they are 83 behind so it really isn’t close.

Some of the best players on the Browns come from SEC as well, Odell Beckham Jr., Myles Garrett, Nick Chubb, and Jarvis Landry who are all difference makers.

If all of the rookies make the opening day roster Cleveland will have 13 players from the best farm system in football. The south is a football factory and it’s good to see some of that talent make its way to northeast Ohio.
