Cincinnati Bengals – Fourth Place (6-10)

The fact the Bengals will finish last in the division despite having six wins shows how tough this division will be. If they were in any other AFC division, they would be able to test for eight or nine wins. However, this will be the most hotly contested division in football and the Bengals will do well to keep within touching distance of Steelers, Ravens, and Browns.

One of the obvious key additions was superstar LSU quarterback Joe Burrow as the number one overall pick. The 2019 Heisman Winner gives an instant upgrade over the outgoing Andy Dalton.

While it would have been ideal for Burrow to sit behind a veteran and not be thrown straight to the wolves, Cincinnati does not currently have that luxury.  The front office did Burrow a few favors by signing A.J. Green to a franchise tender giving him a top veteran target to depend on to pair with John Ross and 2nd round draft pick Tee Higgins.

They also bolstered up the line in charge of protecting him by signing free agent Xavier Su’a-Filo.  The Bengals really had their issues on defense last year, especially against the run.

They addressed this issue very well in free agency bringing in former Houston DT D.J. Reader and defensive backs Trae Waynes, Mackensie Alexander, and Von Bell. Former Ravens linebacker was added to a revamped linebacker room that includes draft picks Logan Wilson (Wyoming) and Akeem Davis-Gaither (Appalachian State) and should help immediately sure up weaknesses on the  Bengals defense.

While there will be many improvements, a rookie quarterback in a division with three incredibly fierce defenses who can get to the quarterback is a recipe for struggles. While the Bengals will be much improved from a season ago but will struggle to compete for a playoff spot in a tough division
