Myles Garrett – Fourth year

What needs to be said about Myles Garrett that isn’t known already? The physical freak draws comparisons to the great Bruce Smith. Garrett was off to a tremendous start to the 2019 campaign, as many thought of him as a Defensive Player of the Year candidate. We all know that didn’t happen and what transpired on a certain Thursday night football game in November. None the less, Garrett is still one of the best pass rushers in the NFL and get this… he’s only 24-years-old!

Garrett played in 10 games last season and before his suspension was able to rack up 10 sacks, 29 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 18 quarterback hits and a missed tackle rate of only 3.3 percent. Now if he would’ve played all season, those stats would probably be even better considering how he was playing at that given time.

Looking back at his 2018 stats though, you can tell improvements were made to his game. He did play in all 16 games in 2018, so the stats will obviously be higher than 2019. In his sophomore season, he had 44 tackles, 13.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss and 29 quarterback hits and a 12 percent missed tackle rate. He gained a lot of on-field experience in 2018, as he played 86 percent of the team’s snaps. That experience carried over, as he was looking to have increased his sack total, tackles for loss, and he improved on his missed tackles.

Over his three years, Garrett has already made 30.5 sacks, despite only playing one full season. In comparison, Vernon’s career sack number is 54.5 and he’s played seven season. Garrett has only played 37 games to Vernon’s 113 and is already over halfway to Vernon’s career sack total.

Garrett is a Defensive Player of the Year candidate regardless of what he did last season. As one of the youngest impactful players in the NFL today, the Browns are going to rely on him to lead this group once again. He has the ability to have over 15 sacks a year with his quickness and ability, which is why he is vital to the defensive line’s success.

Next. The Browns should not sign Larry Warford. dark

After his suspension, the defensive line was not as effective as it was while he was on the field. Hopefully, Garrett can shake off what happened to him and put all the criticism to the side and play with a chip on his shoulder. Garrett winning another offseason reward and having a top-rated defense would help shut up his critics too.
