1. Changing the culture

Back in 2018, general manager John Dorsey traded for Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry. The NFL leader in receptions the prior season then signed a five-year extension with the Browns and proclaimed his desire to help turn the franchise around.

Landry was quickly tabbed a team leader and gave a passionate speech on ‘Hard Knocks‘ about playing and practicing through pain. That resulted in him being credited with changing the culture in Cleveland. However, there’s a slight flaw in that thinking as the culture hasn’t changed.

Yes, the Browns are better than the 1-31 record they put up during the first two years of the Hu0e Jackson era, but they’re far from a winning culture. They still haven’t made the playoffs since 2002 and haven’t had a winning record since 2007.

Not only are they not winning, but as mentioned earlier, they’re still steam full of drama off the field and confusion on it. This isn’t a knock on Landry as he hasn’t done anything to contribute to this. Outside of a silly cleat violation, he’s been very quiet. Unfortunately, one player doesn’t change everything.

Landry has been a positive presence but the team needs more players who can step up and focus on winning games rather than having a bunch of nonsense going on.

The culture hasn’t changed just yet in Cleveland. It can, and they seem to be on the right path. But they still have to start winning before we can truly say things have changed for them.

Teams have to learn to win in the NFL, which is a lot harder than it sounds.
