The Cleveland Browns added Grant Delpit and Karl Joseph this offseason but should they still consider adding superstar Jamal Adams?

In need of help at safety, the Cleveland Browns added Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo in free agency this offseason. Following those signings, they added Grant Delpit in the second round of the draft, which gives them three capable starters. But should they look for more?

Recent reports have suggested that the New York Jets and All-Pro safety Jamal Adams have seen their relationship damaged and it might not be repaired. After nearly trading him to the Dallas Cowboys last season, the Jets are now refusing to give into Adams demands on a new deal, preferring to sign him in 2021 rather than now.

Adams’ frustration has led to a belief that the team is going to have to move on and the reported asking price (according to New York writer Gary Myers) is a first and third-round pick. Adams has insisted he wants to play close to his hometown, which is what fueled the Dallas trade talks, but he apparently would consider other teams as well.

With that being the case, should the Browns get in on the sweepstakes? We don’t know of there being any interest from Cleveland, but what we do know is that general manager Andrew Berry has been very aggressive this offseason.

He signed Austin Hooper and Jack Conklin in free agency, shoring up two of their weakest positions. He also felt safety needed improvement, which is why they signed Joseph and Sendejo while also drafting Delpit.

Even with those additions, there’s no reason for Cleveland to scoff at Adams. While Joseph is young and talented, he comes in on a one-year deal and isn’t near the game-changer that Adams is for the Jets. As for Sendejo, he’s veteran depth and it would be unlikely that he’s expected to be on the team beyond 2020.

With that being the case, the Browns could give up a first and third-round pick in order to field a secondary that featured Adams and Delpit long-term.

That’s a lot to give up but there are very few sure things in the draft and everyone already knows Adams is a star in the league. It may never happen but it wouldn’t be surprising to learn Berry is at least considering such a move.
