5 bold predictions for Cleveland Browns 2020 NFL Draft class
By Randy Gurzi
1. Grant Delpit earns a Pro Bowl nod
For the second season in a row, an LSU defensive back fell to the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the draft. In 2019, it was cornerback Greedy Williams, who they moved up a few picks to secure. This season, it was safety Grant Delpit, but they actually dropped down a few picks and added an extra selection later on.
Delpit now looks to be the starter opposite Karl Joseph and the Browns landed a player who is capable of transforming the entire secondary. He comes in with some questions on his tackling (which are overblown) but is called a “centerpiece” of the defense by Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network.
"“Grant Delpit projects as an impact defender at the NFL level. Tackling issues in the open field will put off some teams, but he’s physically capable of booming hits and his foundation as a player is a pretty rare blend of skills — making him an enticing every down defender that can be a centerpiece to weekly game plans. Delpit has high football intelligence and can handle any number of roles or responsibilities, adding him to a roster will add infinite flexibility to back-end coverage combos.” — Crabbs, The Draft Network"
Even with the questions about Delpit’s tackling — which could be attributed to an injury that he was playing through since he didn’t show these issues in 2018 — he had no business falling to pick 44. Cleveland got a plug and play starter at a position of need and it won’t take long for him to prove them right for making the pick.
In this final bold prediction, Delpit is going to do enough as a rookie to make the Pro Bowl team for the Browns — and not as a replacement, but one of the true All-Stars in the NFL.
