The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including a glimpse at Grant Delpit’s potential.
As the 2020 offseason was unwinding, it became clear that safety was going to become a major position of need for the Cleveland Browns, especially during the 2020 NFL Draft. Cleveland decided to make their move early, selecting Grant Delpit in the second round.
Delpit brings excitement to the Browns secondary because after his 2018 campaign, it was widely believed he would have been a top-15 pick in the draft. However, after a mediocre 2019 season, Delpit fell into the second round, which the Browns were more than happy to take advantage of.
Suffering from a high ankle sprain for most of the season, Delpit was not making the same type of plays he was in 2018. It limited him on the field and it dramatically impacted his performance. Despite the injury, the National Championship Game in January gave a glimpse at the 2018 version of Delpit.

Today’s featured article takes a look at Delpit’s performance in the National Championship Game for LSU and how it gives glimpses of his potential.
"But in order to learn more about who Delpit is as a player, a good way was to look at how he did in the two biggest games of LSU’s season: the College Football Playoff games. He had three weeks following the SEC Championship Game to get healthier, so it offered a different look than what we saw the rest of the season."
Delpit was a playmaker in the LSU defense during the College Football Playoff, and the time to get healthy following the SEC Championship certainly benefited Delpit. His play in the final games of the season is exactly why the Browns selected, mainly because he showed plenty of versatility, but still excelled while in pass coverage.
Cleveland Browns should pass on Jamal Adams
Jets safety Jamal Adams has been involved in trade rumors this offseason and the Browns have been a team some believe would be a fit for Adams. Casey Kinnamon discusses why the Browns should pass on making a trade for Adams.
"Now, the Browns need to find an answer at right guard, and all indications are they’ll look for a starter among a bevy of young, internal options. That group includes Wyatt Teller, who started the majority of games to end last year, Drew Forbes, Colby Gossett and Willie Wright."
Linebacker will be a key competition to watch at camp, but right guard may become the most interesting. With several players who can be in the competition, it will be a wide open battle and could come down to the final snaps of camp to determine who the starter will be.
