Kevin Stefanski could start his first minicamp with the Cleveland Browns in the near future.

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has been unable to have his new team take the field at the Browns facility in Berea, Ohio since he was hired in January because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, that may change in the very near future.

NFL head coaches may return to their team facilities starting next week, according to Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson. Robinson also reported that players could then return to the team’s facility for full minicamp by mid-to-late June.

NFL facilities have been shutdown since late March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with only limited staff and players rehabbing from injuries only recently being allowed to return to the team facilities.

Head coaches being allowed to return to their team’s facility will be a significant step for the NFL returning from the pandemic. With most states cutting down on their restrictions from the pandemic, almost every team should be able to reopen their facility.

This is major news for the Browns because their offseason has been limited with a completely new coaching staff. By this time of the offseason, team’s with new head coaches would have been able to have their players in their facility and started the work to install their new schemes and overall program for the organization.

Instead, new head coaches have only been able to do so through virtual meetings. Although this will create some progress with installs, it will not be as effective as having in-person meetings.

With the Cleveland Browns hoping to be in playoff contention in 2020, getting the full team together as soon as possible will be beneficial for the team. Cleveland’s coaching staff will then be able to install their new scheme’s quickly, while also seeing where the players need to improve before training camp.

Coaches can only do so much with virtual meetings, so getting the players on the field will be important. Whether it be to make sure the players have a better grasp of their schemes or if coaches want to make some improvements to an individual players’ technique, coaches will need to have the players on the field to do so.

With a shortened offseason, there is a chance the Browns could not be as prepared for the 2020 season as they need to be. If the NFL is able to put together minicamps by mid-June, it will help the Browns, as well as other teams with new head coaches to be as prepared for the season as teams with veteran coaching staffs who have less to install.

Browns center and President of the NFL Players Association, J.C. Tretter, tweeted Tuesday in response to Robinson’s report that there is a hard deadline for offseason activities on June 26. This means if there were to be a minicamp, it would have to start in the middle of June at the latest.

Kevin Stefanski and the rest of the Browns coaching staff have been put in a difficult offseason with the NFL facilities being closed. If this report proves to be true, the Browns coaching staff should be able to get what they need done to be ready for training camp.
