Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam took an opportunity during a recent NFL owner’s meeting to take a joking jab at Jerry Jones.

Since buying the Cleveland Browns in 2012, Jimmy Haslam has seemed to always find himself in a news cycle. Whether it be for his quick trigger on hiring/firing coaches and general managers or his business outside of the NFL, the Browns owner seemingly stays in the news.

Haslam’s trait to be in the news is similar to another owner in the NFL, just perhaps not at the same level. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been known to say what he thinks, which has put him in hot water at times.

On Wednesday, Haslam and Jones found themselves connected in the news of the NFL world following a comment made by Haslam during an NFL owners meeting last week.

Much like the rest of the world, the NFL owners have been forced to hold their meetings virtually. With perhaps a slight technical error on Jones’ side of the computer, it gave Haslam an opportunity to crack a joke about Jones, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Haslam and Jones seemingly have a positive relationship with each other, considering Jones said in 2016 he believed Haslam is a top-five owner in the NFL. So despite Haslam saying Jones “should be kept on permanent mute,” the belief is the comment was made in fun.

Although it can be perceived that Haslam did not mean to make the comment to be heard by the rest of the owners, it should not be a comment that is blown up into creating a divide between Haslam and Jones.

However, it does show some lack of awareness from Haslam, which many have criticized the Browns owner for many times in the past. It may have been a joke to mess around with somebody, the comment being heard by the rest of the owners is not the best look.

But to be fair for Haslam, Jones’ outspoken nature has rubbed people the wrong way across the NFL, and it has even created some drama for the league in the past. So perhaps Haslam is not too far off by saying Jones should have a mute button.

Haslam’s comment towards Jones just goes to show even billionaires are bound to have some technological miscues with virtual meetings, just like the rest of the world who may be caught not wearing pants during their virtual meetings.
