The Browns will sign Jadaveon Clowney

As of late a lot of the focus has been on star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. The free agent has been slow to sign, and it appears his price tag may be dropping by the day. Originally Clowney’s agent shared his client was looking for a $20 million per year deal, which many believed at the time he could find.

Adam Schefter recently reported the Browns have offered Clowney the most money, and if he wanted to be in Cleveland, he would already be there.  Schefter appeared on ESPN 850 WKNR in Cleveland on Wednesday and shared the following:

"“I think they’ve been the most aggressive team with him financially. And I just think he has balked at going to Cleveland, for whatever reason. I think he’s been hesitant to go because if he wasn’t, he would have gone already because it’s the most money. It’s the richest offer on the table and he hasn’t taken it.  Why is that? I don’t know. Is that not wanting to be in that city? Is that a lack of belief in the organization?”"

While some in the media continue to push the story, it appears the quote above kills any opportunity for the Browns to land Clowney. Truthfully, if someone doesn’t want to be on a team, there is no need for overpaying to try to change their mind. Work ethic must be the staple of changing the Browns culture, and it doesn’t appear Clowney would be a fit anyway.

With the addition of Adrian Clayborn this offseason, the Browns pass rush should be in great shape with Myles Garrett and Olivier Vernon leading the charge. Clowney would simply be a luxury who could cause more harm than good in the locker room. If everyone stays healthy, look for the Browns to put plenty of heat on the opposing quarterback without any additional help at the defensive end position.
