If the Cleveland Browns don’t believe in their linebackers they could look at these 3 veteran free agents

We have all heard the talk this entire offseason in regards to the Cleveland Browns linebacker corps. Right now, they feature a lot of un-tested talent with Mack Wilson and B.J. Goodson being the only two on the team to take significant snaps in the NFL.

Wilson, a fifth-round pick in 2019 for the Browns started 14 games as a rookie and had 82 tackles and one interception. He struggled at times but has some traits that could make him a starter long-term.

As for Goodson, he spent his first three seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants before going to the Green Bay Packers in 2019. He has 29 career starts in 52 games and had 160 tackles and two picks in his career.

Goodson is a decent early-down linebacker but has questions about his ability to help on passing downs. There’s also Sione Takitaki, a third-round pick in 2019, who has yet to make much of an impact at the NFL level. As a rookie, he played in 15 games with one start and recorded just 21 tackles. He showed flashes as a collegiate player for BYU but hasn’t been able to make his mark as a pro just yet.

Jacob Phillips is the fourth linebacker right now and comes to the Browns via the LSU Tigers. A third-round pick, Phillips was a tackling machine in the SEC and could develop into a stud for Cleveland.

There’s a belief by the coaches that these players could get it done but there’s also a chance that they could get to training camp and realize the youngsters aren’t ready for the full-time roles. If so, here are three names to consider adding — and we will skip over Nigel Bradham, who was already recently discussed here at DPD.
