Patrick Queen – Linebacker

This is likely the riskiest pick of them all, but I was so irritated by this pick because rookie linebacker from LSU, Patrick Queen is going to be a stud for the Baltimore Ravens.  At 6-foot tall and 230 pounds, Queen is athletic to move side to side, but also has the size and strength to fill inside holes. As a junior last season, Queen had 85 total tackles and 3 sacks and was a major part of LSU’s National Championship victory.

Yes, Lamar Jackson, league MVP is the easy pick here. But I’m still not sold his style of play is a good one in the long run. To this point, he has stayed healthy, but there is a lot of gasping each time he takes off with the ball wondering if he’s going to get lit up. Plus, Mayfield is the guy. Throw last year out, Stefanski will get the best out of Mayfield in 2020.

With the addition of Queen, the Browns linebacking core would still be extremely young, but holy cow would they be dynamic and athletic.  Mack Wilson and Queen would be strong linebackers in the dime package. That, with a loaded defensive front with the addition of Atkins, would keep offensive lineman from reaching the second level making the linebacker position much easier.

As you dissect the current Browns roster, there aren’t many holes on the offensive side of the ball. You could knit pick that Mayfield could get better and right guard is a bit of a weakness. But other than that, there are potential pro-bowlers at every spot.

The defense should be strong as well but still needs some help. That’s why each “steal” was on that side of the ball.  Maybe I have too much faith in Mayfield, but I expect big things from him in 2020.
