The Cleveland Browns have seen offseason workouts end with players joining forces. Could this be happening again with Cam Newton?

There used to be a time when offseason workouts with big-name players got Cleveland Browns fans all excited. Back in 2018, that was the case when former Cleveland quarterback Tyrod Taylor and Jarvis Landry worked out with Odell Beckham, Jr. who was with the New York Giants at the time.

OBJ and Landry also worked out with Baker Mayfield and then before the 2019 season kicked off, Beckham was wearing No. 13 for the Browns.

Now, Beckham is working out with another star player, but this time, there might not be a real connection. The Browns wideout was working out with free-agent quarterback Cam Newton, but don’t expect him to be coming to Cleveland anytime soon.

More from Browns News

Had this been going on a few months ago, there might have been more speculation about Newton taking on the No. 2 role behind Mayfield, but head coach Kevin Stefanski already has his trusted backup in Case Keenum. Still, it’s fun to speculate on any big-name player and their future.

Browns’ Odell Beckham Jr. catching one-handed passes from Cam Newton and selling ‘I Still Can’t Breathe’ T-shirts — Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com

"“Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has vowed to come back “bigger, stronger, faster” from his core muscle surgery, and he provided a sneak preview of that over the weekend when he worked out with free-agent quarterback Cam Newton at UCLA.”"

Cam Newton was the MVP of the league in 2015 but is now without a team after struggling with injuries the past couple of seasons. He’ll eventually find a job and if healthy, he’s going to be a steal. There would have been a time where Browns fans would have fallen over themselves begging the front office to land Newton, but right now, that’s not the case.

Bleacher Report Names Cleveland Browns Linebacker Room A Red Flag Heading Into The Season — Brandon Little, Browns Digest

"“Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski named the linebacker Corp for the Cleveland Browns the teams potential “red flag”. It very well could be, time will tell. Maybe it is just an inexperienced group that hasn’t been able to show it on the field. Mack Wilson comes into his second year needing to play much better than his rookie season, while Sione Takitaki needs to actually get on the field.”"

There’s not a position on the team that has more red flags around it than linebacker, which makes this article very unsurprising.

Hey Terry: Why aren’t the Cleveland Browns getting more respect? What about Baker Mayfield kneeling? — Terry Pluto, Cleveland.com

"“Can the Browns be competitive, a .500 record or slightly better? That’s a realistic expectation. But I do worry about the lack of minicamps due to COVID-19. You don’t built culture, team unity or a system solely on Zoom calls. But that’s been the story so far for the new Browns coaching staff…and everyone else in the NFL.”"

Terry Pluto answers many questions about the Browns and the respect they’re garnering this season. The simple truth is, in order to get respect, they’re going to have to earn it by winning games.
